Virtuoso conductor
Christian Lorenz has served as Intendant of the Philharmonic Orchestra in Konstanz since 2003.
Christian Lorenz was born in 1961 in Berlin. He was five years old when he started musical education with flute-, piano- and organ-lessons.
After having passed his first state examinations as a music teacher he started advanced studies in conducting with Prof. Jiri Starek at the Hochschule für Musik at Frankfurt. In 1990 he had his debut with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 and received a magna cum laude artistic diploma in conducting.
In several masterclasses Christian Lorenz worked on his artistic perfection with such famous conductors as Michael Gielen (at the Salzburg Mozarteum), Gustav Meier and Leonard Bernstein (at the Tanglewood Festival, USA).
It was still during his years at college that Christian Lorenz started his conducting career: He conducted the Frankfurt Chamber Opera, founded and conducted the „Student’s Ensemble Frankfurt“ and served many years as permanent guest-conductor of the State Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Land Hessen.
In the following time Christian Lorenz mainly worked as an opera conducter being engaged in several theaters such as Trier, Detmold, Lüneburg and Rostock. He had big successes with the great german repertoire like Carl Maria von Weber’s „Freischütz“ and Mozart’s „Zauberflöte“.
As a concert conductor Christian Lorenz performed a wide repertoire which consists of the classical symphonies (e.g. the complete symphonies of Beethoven) and solo concerts as well as of oratories and a capella choral music. He has always put an emphasis on contemporary music and conducted several first performances.
In 1995 Christian Lorenz was appointed director of the Orchestral Academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival and served as director of the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Lüneburg where he held a professorship for musical analysis and cultural management.
He has been invited to several orchestras like the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, Hamburger Symphoniker, Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie Herford, Czech Chamber Philharmonic Pardubice, Folkwang Kammerorchester, Philharmonic Orchestra Thuringia, Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, State Philharmony Rousse, Bulgaria. He performed with world famous artists like Gabriel Koh Kameda, Bruno Weinmeister, Christoph Eschenbach, Mstislav Rostropovich and others.
